The gargano seperates itself from the mainland like an island. His geological origins are located on the east coast of the adriatic sea. It´s highest point is called Mt. Calvo and is 1065m high. The mountains in the "backyard" of vieste are also responsible for the thermical winds that are blowing north of the city. Vieste is surrounded by the "forresta umbra", italians youngest nationalpark. The nationalpark-law protected the area from big hotels and other buildings you can find on the north-italian coast. Altough the growing tourism the gargano has kept his origins. The national forrest offers also great trails for mountainbikers and hikers.

Shoping is always a subject in Italy. But you´ll not find big shopping malls here, rather there are small shops selling the local specials like olives, oliveoil, olive , no, there are more offers. Fish, cheese, pasta, doesn´t matter, the people here are living and dying for a good meal and the break afterwards.

An
advice for the subject traveltime:
From may to october you can use your swimsuits in the adriatic sea. We´re not recommending the time around "ferragosta" (15th of august) for your holidays in Italy, around this date every italian is going to be on the seaside. Best travelltime is the low-season (may, june, september)! |
